Electronic Power Inverters and Converters. Our project "High Frequency Alternator, Power Frequency Conversion (HFA-PFC) Technology for Lightweight Tactical Power generation" won a contract with the Department of Defense. Our contract was successfully completed. We offered a new approach to improve fuel consumption of existing diesel generators. For instance, the fuel consumption of a conventional military 60 kW diesel generator set, which is shown at left, can be reduced up to 41%. The Army has an asset of more than 100,000 diesel generator sets with output power from .5 kW to 200 kW, and fuel savings of even 5-10% are essential. Our new diesel gen-sets will have reduced fuel consumption at partial loads due to use of a new computer-controlled engine governor and frequency conversion, which is shown in picture.
